Don't Put Your Breast Health on Hold: Early Awareness Saves Lives
October 15 – Breast Health Awareness
Breast health is an important aspect of women's health throughout life. In the busyness of everyday life, routine check-ups may be postponed and changes in our bodies may go unnoticed. Taking care of breast health begins with knowing your body, recognizing changes, and seeking appropriate medical care when needed.
What Should We Pay Attention to for Breast Health?
1. Know your breasts.
Being familiar with the normal appearance and feel of your breasts can help you recognize changes over time.
2. Do not ignore changes.
A lump in the breast or armpit, nipple inversion, unusual discharge from one nipple, redness, thickening of the skin, or changes in breast shape are signs that should be evaluated. These changes do not always indicate cancer; however, if you notice any of them, you should consult a healthcare professional.
3. Keep up with your screenings and check-ups.
Breast cancer may not cause symptoms in its early stages. Therefore, even if you have no symptoms, it is important to follow a screening schedule appropriate for your age and individual risk factors. In Türkiye, free mammography screening is offered every two years to women aged 40–69. Those with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors should consult their healthcare provider to determine an appropriate screening plan.
4. Adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
Regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking support overall health and may help reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Early Awareness Means Taking One Step Ahead
Breast health deserves attention throughout the year, not just during a particular month. Make time for yourself, do not postpone your check-ups, and encourage the women around you to become more aware of their breast health.
At Bir Adım Sağlık, we believe that awareness is the first step toward protecting your health.
Remember, early evaluation and appropriate screening play an important role in the early detection and successful treatment of breast cancer.
