Regular check-ups for early diagnosis improve treatment success and quality of life

Bir Adım Sağlık—launched as a public health innovation and aiming to expand a preventive healthcare approach—draws attention to the decisive role of early diagnosis in breast cancer, one of the most critical topics in women’s health, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

According to data from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, breast cancer affects approximately 2.3 million women each year. In Türkiye, around 27,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually. This picture clearly highlights the importance of awareness, regular follow-up, and timely medical consultation.

Inviting all women to regular check-ups by emphasizing the vital importance of early detection during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Bir Adım Sağlık General Manager Ayşe Şengel said: “Breast cancer, one of the most common types of cancer among women, is seen in approximately 27,000 women each year. Early diagnosis is one of the most critical factors determining the success of treatment. In addition to physician examinations and recommended screenings, every woman needs to make breast self-examination a regular habit.”

Emphasizing that early diagnosis saves lives, Şengel added: “Start with a visual check in front of a mirror in a well-lit environment; look for any changes in size, symmetry, color, or the skin. Then, using the soft pads of three fingers, systematically examine the entire breast, the nipple, and the underarm area with small circular motions, starting from the collarbone. If you notice any hardness, dimpling, discharge, or unusual findings, consult your doctor without delay.”

Highlighting the importance of all women acting with the same awareness in October, Bir Adım Sağlık recommends not neglecting regular breast self-examinations and physician check-ups.
